In 2012, an alien criminal named Boris the Animal, a Boglodite, escapes from a maximum-security prison on the Moon to take revenge on Agent K, who shot off his left arm and captured him in 1969. He confronts K and his partner Agent J, and tells him he is "already dead". Back at MiB Headquarters, J peruses MiB's files and discovers K was responsible not only for capturing Boris, but for deploying the "ArcNet", a shield that prevented the Boglodites from conquering Earth, causing their extinction.

Using an illegal time-jump device, Boris travels back in time to 1969 to kill the young Agent K. With history altered so that K is now long-dead, only J's own memory is somehow completely unaffected, and no-one else from the Agency understands his obsession with K until Agent O, the new Chief of MIB following Zed's death, deduces there has been a fracture in the space-time continuum. With K gone, the ArcNet was never deployed, leaving nothing to protect the present-day Earth from a Boglodite invasion.

Knowing from the Agency's records Boris will commit a murder there in 1969, J uses the same device to travel back in time to 1969 and goes to Coney Island to stop Boris and save K and the world. However, he ends up arrested by young K, who takes him to MiB Headquarters and prepares to neuralyze him, but decides at the last minute to investigate J's claims that he traveled from the future to protect him. K and J follow clues, leading them to a bowling alley, then The Factory, where they encounter an alien named Griffin, who is in possession of the ArcNet. Griffin, who can see all possible future timelines and outcomes, senses Boris is coming and flees, but tells J and K where to meet him so he can give them the ArcNet. There, Boris captures Griffin. J and K pursue and rescue Griffin, acquiring the ArcNet. Young Boris escapes and Old Boris arrives, and they team up.

Upon learning that they must go to Cape Canaveral so they can attach the ArcNet to the Apollo 11 rocket to deploy it in space, J reveals that Boris will kill K, who initially takes the news badly. J, K, and Griffin fly there using jetpacks, but they are stopped and arrested by the military. After J & K fail to convince a colonel, Griffin shows him the future, revealing to him the importance of their mission, and he assists them in getting to the launch site. As the agents climb up the rocket's launch tower, they are attacked by both young and old Boris. Unable to stop old Boris, J uses his time-travel device to evade his attacks and so he can knock him off one of the launch tower bridges. K shoots off young Boris's left arm, knocking him off of the tower while also restoring the timeline. K attaches the ArcNet to the rocket and it is deployed successfully when the rocket launches, with old Boris incinerated by the rocket exhaust.

Young Boris attacks K on a beach, but the colonel saves K by sacrificing himself. Boris, knowing he is going to be arrested from his older self, taunts K, but this causes K to kill him, thus preventing the cycle from repeating. The colonel's young son arrives and when he inquires about his father, K neuralyzes him and tells him only that his father is a hero. Observing from afar, J realizes that the young boy is himself, the colonel was his father, K has been watching over him his whole life and that he was there when the timeline changed, thus explaining why he was the only one who remembered K in the alternate 2012.

With his mission complete, J returns to 2012, where he reconciles with K, who tells him the Boglodites are extinct. Griffin observes this, and says it is his new favorite moment in human history.

Twenty-three days after Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to disintegrate half of all life in the universe,^{[N 1]} Carol Danvers rescues Tony Stark and Nebula from deep space and returns them to Earth. They reunite with the remaining Avengers—Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, Rocket, Thor, Natasha Romanoff, and James Rhodes—and find Thanos on an uninhabited planet. They plan to retake and use the Infinity Stones to reverse the disintegrations, but Thanos reveals he destroyed them to prevent further use. An enraged Thor decapitates Thanos.

Five years later, Scott Lang escapes from the quantum realm.^{[N 2]} He travels to the Avengers compound, where he explains to Romanoff and Rogers that he experienced only five hours while trapped. Theorizing the quantum realm could allow time travel, the three ask Stark to help them retrieve the Stones from the past to reverse Thanos' actions in the present, but Stark refuses to help. After looking at a picture of Peter Parker and talking with his wife, Pepper Potts, Stark relents and works with Banner, who has since merged his intelligence with the Hulk's strength, to successfully build a time machine. Banner warns that changing the past does not affect their present and any changes instead create branched alternate realities. He and Rocket go to the Asgardian refugees' new home in Norway—New Asgard—to recruit Thor, now an overweight alcoholic, despondent over his failure to stop Thanos. In Tokyo, Romanoff recruits Clint Barton, now a ruthless vigilante following the disintegration of his family.

Banner, Lang, Rogers, and Stark travel to New York City in 2012.^{[N 3]} Banner visits the Sanctum Sanctorum and convinces the Ancient One to give him the Time Stone. Rogers successfully retrieves the Mind Stone, but Stark and Lang's attempt to steal the Space Stone goes awry, allowing 2012 Loki to escape with it. Rogers and Stark travel to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in 1970, where Stark obtains an earlier version of the Space Stone and encounters his father, Howard, in the process, while Rogers steals several Pym Particles from Hank Pym to return to the present. Rocket and Thor travel to Asgard in 2013, extracting the Reality Stone from Jane Foster^{[N 4]} and retrieving Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. Nebula and Rhodes travel to Morag in 2014 and steal the Power Stone before Peter Quill can.^{[N 5]} Rhodes returns to the present with the Power Stone, but Nebula is incapacitated when her cybernetic implants link with those of her past self. Through this connection, 2014 Thanos learns of his future success and the Avengers' attempts to undo it. He captures Nebula and sends the 2014 version of Nebula to the present in the former's place. Barton and Romanoff travel to Vormir, where the Soul Stone's keeper, the Red Skull, reveals it can only be acquired by sacrificing someone they love. Romanoff sacrifices herself, allowing Barton to obtain the Soul Stone.

Reuniting in the present, the Avengers fit the Stones into a Stark-created gauntlet, which Banner uses to resurrect all whom Thanos disintegrated. 2014 Nebula uses the time machine to transport Thanos and his warship to the present, where he attacks the Avengers' compound, planning to destroy and then rebuild the universe with the Stones. Nebula convinces 2014 Gamora to betray Thanos. They encounter 2014 Nebula, and present-day Nebula kills her. Stark, Rogers, and Thor fight Thanos but are outmatched.^{[N 6]} Thanos summons his army to devastate the Earth, but a restored Stephen Strange arrives with other sorcerers, the restored Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, the armies of Wakanda and Asgard, and the Ravagers to fight Thanos and his army alongside Danvers, who destroys Thanos' warship as she arrives. After overpowering the heroes, Thanos seizes the gauntlet, but Stark steals the Stones back and uses them to disintegrate Thanos and his army. He dies from the energy emitted in the process.

Following Stark's funeral, Thor appoints Valkyrie as the new ruler of New Asgard and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, while Quill plans to search for 2014 Gamora. Rogers returns the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir to their original places in time and remains in the past to live with Peggy Carter. In the present, an elderly Rogers passes on his shield and mantle to Sam Wilson.

Dot is a young, orphaned, deaf and muteteenager. After the death of her father, who had also been deaf, she is sent to live with her godparents, Paul and Olivia Deer, and their daughter, Nina, with whom she used to be close friends. However, she soon learns the secrets her new family withhold from the rest of the world as well as from one another.

Nina constantly insults Dot every chance she gets, unhinged by her arrival. Dot blames herself for her father's death in a car accident, believing that if she had been with him, she could have warned him of the oncoming danger. Soon after arriving, Dot discovers an incestuous relationship between Nina and Paul. Paul invited Dot to stay in an attempt to control himself, wishing he could end his sexual relationship with Nina. He tries to tell Olivia about his relationship with Nina, but is unable to bring himself to say it.

Nina resents Dot's presence, saying, "Life sucks, Dot. I feel like I can tell you this. I feel like I can be honest because you can't hear. Or can you? Look at you, eating your sandwich like a piglet while I talk. Strangely comforting...When I first met you, I mean when you first moved in, I hated you. I hated your face, your dumb blank stare. But now that I feel like I know you again that's all changed. It's so nice to know there's someone whose life sucks more than mine."

One Day, Nina overhears Dot swear loudly when one of the piano wires breaks while she is playing the piano. Nina learns that Dot is neither deaf nor mute but, Nina pretends that she doesn't know the truth. For reasons of her own, Nina still pretends that Dot cannot tell anyone and confides in Dot about her plan to murder her father. Dot becomes aware of everything Nina and Paul do behind closed doors and even tries to help Nina avoid Paul's advances.

Dot is assigned to be lab partners with Connor, a star basketball player. Their partnership arouses jealousy in Michelle Fell, Nina's loud-mouthed best friend, who likes Connor. Connor is able to communicate well with Dot by lip-reading in order to work on their report, knowing that with a disability of his own (Attention Deficit Disorder) he needs to improve his grades to receive a basketball scholarship. He also becomes very attracted to Dot and confides to her about personal things in his life, believing she is unable to hear him. After confiding that he is a virgin, Dot undresses for him and he has sex with her.

Meanwhile, Nina confides in Dot that she is planning to kill her father and then running away and becoming a stripper, believing she can become famous "like Courtney Love." Before the "Spring Fling" dance, Nina tells Paul that she is pregnant and needs $1,000 for an abortion. However, once he discovers tampons in her purse, he realizes that she is lying and is only attempting to obtain the money to get away from home. As Dot begins to play "Moonlight Sonata" downstairs, Paul confronts Nina about her lie. Nina tries to explain, but Paul, distressed that his daughter wants to leave him, begins to physically abuse her. The abuse turns into a rape attempt. Dot recognizes what is going on upstairs, stops playing piano and heads upstairs. The music finally stops when Dot uses a piano wire to strangle Paul to death, screaming at him to leave Nina alone. All the while, Olivia remains downstairs, staring at the news in a pill-induced stupor. When Paul's body hits the ground, Nina starts screaming and cursing at Dot. Olivia comes upstairs and her only comment on being faced with Paul's body is to tell Dot that it's a miracle that she can hear.

The two girls go to the dance club where Dot dances with Connor, then she reveals to him that she is able to hear and talk. Connor calls her a psycho and storms away in anger. Both girls bury Nina's dress, which has her father's blood on it. At this point, Nina questions Dot about pretending to be deaf and mute. Dot reveals that she wanted to be closer to her father so that she wouldn't be alone after her mother's death. When the girls return home, Olivia has turned herself into the police and claims that she, not Dot, had killed Paul in order to protect her daughter Nina and atone for allowing the abuse. The film ends on a philosophical note as the two girls play piano together, freed from their respective fathers
